• Department of Children & Families employee Marc Wichman has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged. Wichman, who is based in Jacksonville, was honored for his 15 years of service with the commission as an active board member.

• Clearwire and the Jacksonville Public Library System will host the kickoff of Clearwire’s wireless technology Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. at the new Main Library.

• The 667 motorcyclists who took part in the daniel Motorcycle Run raised $81,000, which will be used to pay for educational programs at Florida’s oldest child-serving agency.

• Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting its volunteer appreciation celebration Friday from noon-1 p.m. at the Regency Carrabba’s Italian Grill.

• Better Baymeadows, Inc. (BBI) and FCCJ are hosting the Best of Baymeadows event Wednesday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the FCCJ Deerwood Center at Old Baymeadows Road and Southside Boulevard. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door and can be purchased by contacting BBI at 739-9076 or [email protected]. Better Baymeadows, Inc. (BBI) is a public/private partnership working with businesses, property owners, neighborhoods and government agencies to make Baymeadows Road a better place to live, work, shop and play.
