• The St. Johns River City Band has named Dr. Michael Davis music director and Christopher Heacox program director. Davis, who retired recently as the band and orchestra director for the Walt Disney World Resort, will conduct the River City Brass Band, River City Big Band and River City Youth Wind Band. Heacox will be responsible for promoting the band, coordinating educational initiatives in the Duval County school system, booking all River City Band ensembles and directing the River City Youth Jazz Ensemble and River City Satin Swing Band.

• The American Cancer Society is hosting a prostrate cancer and support program Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Cancer Society office. For details, call 398-0537, Ext. 309.

• The Jacksonville Urban League is hosting its Equal Opportunity Luncheon Oct. 30 at noon at the Osborn Center. Tickets range from $75-$1,500. For information, call 366-3461.

• Lt. Gov. Frank Brogan is scheduled to visit the Jacksonville Small Business Center today at 1:30 p.m.
