• Debbie Cohen (left) has been named senior designer at Broadbased Communications. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Cohen has worked for design firms in Massachusetts, California and Virginia.

• The Downtown Development Authority is scheduled to meet Jan. 23 at 9:30 a.m. in City Council Committee Room B at City Hall.

• Kesler Mentoring Connection, the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation and Ch. 30 are hosting the Mentors Make a Difference Rally today from 11:02 a.m-1:02 p.m. at the Alltel Stadium West Club. The time of the event ends with the number 2 for two reasons: the number 2 is part of the Mentoring Connection’s tagline, discover the power of two, and the agency will also announce its 502 by 5/02 Campaign: 502 New Mentors by May 2002. • Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum will host a psychic demonstration with the “English style of mediumship.” It’s scheduled for Thursday from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $15.

• The Mandarin Arts Festival is scheduled for March 30 and 31 at the Mandarin Community Club. Over 100 artists are expected to participate in the festival. For information, call 880-1231.

• The University of North Florida Music Department is hosting the Koger-Matteson Jazz Festival for area high school jazz ensembles Feb. 5 at the Robinson Theater. The day-long festival concludes with a concert by the UNF Jazz Ensemble I and UNF faculty members. The festival is free and the public is invited. For information, call 620-2961.

• The Exchange Club of Jacksonville is scheduled to meet Thursday at noon at the Hilton. The club will honor the students of the month from Mandarin High School. Cost is $11. For information, call 384-1948.

• The Community Foundation has named Nina Waters executive vice president and John Zell vice president of grantmaking services. Waters joined the organization in 2001 and is responsible for the day-to-day business operations. Zell has been with the Foundation since 1997 and has helped distribute $34 million to nonprofit organizations throughout the First Coast.

• Carol Royer has joined Scott-McRae Advertising as vice president of promotions. Royer brings over 20 years of marketing and promotions experience to the position. Before joining Scott-McRae, she was director of Clear Channel marketing group.
