Molly Boyd has been the property manager for the SunTrust building for almost a year.

WHAT DOES SHE DO?

“I do the accounting, manage the tenant build-outs, handle the vendor contracts with janitorial and security, handle accounts payables and receivables for our bills and handle tenant situations and requests.”

HOW DID SHE GET INTO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT?

She started as a site agent who sold condominiums before switching to resort management in 1984. In 1990, she tried property management at a resort rental company. This is her first job in commercial property management.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT PROPERTY MANAGEMENT?

“Dealing with the tenants and situations that come up. I like problem solving, interacting with the vendors and putting out a nice product for the tenants. It’s much more professional than resort rentals.”

BIRTHPLACE

Cincinnati, but she was raised in Texas.

COLLEGE

She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of West Florida.

HOW DID SHE GO FROM ACCOUNTING TO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT?

“I was doing real estate before I had an accounting degree. I was selling condominiums and was very interested in the repercussions of the pre-1987 tax reform. When you purchased a condominium there was a certain tax benefit with it. I was very interested because I knew the change was coming in 1987. I got interested in the tax implications and decided to get a degree in accounting.”

HAS THE DEGREE BEEN HELPFUL?

“It is a good degree to have because I’ve done accounting in every job I’ve ever had even though I was in management.”

MOVED TO JACKSONVILLE?

In 2001.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

She is a member of the Building Owners Management Association and Downtown Vision, Inc.

ADVICE SHE WOULD GIVE TO SOMEONE INTERESTED IN GETTING INTO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT?

“Have a good maintenance background, experience working with vendors and accounting background.”

FAMILY

She has a son, Bryan, 25, who has a chance to compete in the 2004 Olympics in Athens in the Finn boat class.

HOBBIES

She spends a lot of time restoring her old house. She also enjoys traveling to Disney World. “I just like to go. I’ve had an annual pass for many years. I was there the day they opened the Magic Kingdom in 1971 and I just enjoy it.”

FAVORITES

The last movie she saw was “Ice Age,” which she describes as hysterical and sweet. She also enjoys Carl Hiaasen’s books. “He is a Miami author and he writes about a lot of the misuse of the state and the state resources, but in a novel form.” Her favorite television show is “Law and Order.” When dining out, it is Biscotti’s.
