The Florida Democratic Party this month chipped in $10,000 to help former state Rep. Reggie Fullwood, D-Jacksonville, try to win back his House seat in a special election, according to a newly filed campaign-finance report.

Fullwood raised $25,500 from Nov. 1-14, giving him an overall contribution total of $51,400.

The latest batch of contributions included a $10,000 check Nov. 10 from the state party.

Fullwood’s opponent in the Dec. 16 primary is Jacksonville City Council member Johnny Gaffney, who reported raising $2,950 from Nov. 1-14 and an overall total of $33,865.

The winner will face Jacksonville Republican Lawrence Jefferson in the Feb. 17 general election.

Jefferson raised $50 during the latest period, giving him an overall total of $2,200.

Fullwood did not face opposition as he planned to run for another term during this month’s elections. But two paperwork errors prevented him for qualifying for the November ballot, leading to the need for the special election.
