The Duval County Teen Court opens its offices today in the City Hall Annex. It’s an alternative to the traditional court system for first-time offenders.
The court’s director, Kimberly Walsh, said “It’s a great opportunity for our community. Teen volunteers get real-life experience in a courtroom situation.”
In the Teen Court, all of the traditional roles are filled by teenage volunteers except the judge, who is either a sitting judge or a practicing attorney.
There will be one session each week.
