Gate Petroleum Co. and The Home Depot are going up at The Pavilion at Durbin Park, the northern St. Johns County retail center under development by Jacksonville-based Gate and Gatlin Development Co.

St. Johns County issued a permit June 8 for the $1.8 million construction of the 6,536-square-foot Gate gas station and convenience store at 700 Durbin Pavilion Drive.

It issued the permit June 13 for the $7.5 million construction of the 136,068-square-foot Home Depot at 230 Durbin Pavilion Drive.

The Pavilion is within the 1,600-acre Durbin Park at Interstate 95 and Florida 9B at Race Track Road. Almost 20 retailers and restaurants, including Walmart, are signed.

The Walmart permit was issued in January for the almost 201,000-square-foot store at a construction cost of $12 million at 845 Durbin Pavilion Drive. It should open in November.

Also in development at the Pavilion are Chase Bank; four more retail pads totaling 38,000 square feet to include a 4,000-square-foot Keke’s Breakfast Café and a 5,000-square-foot Japanese steakhouse.

Another 100,000 square feet of tenant space is expected to be announced soon.

The city is reviewing a permit application for Wawa to build a 5,943-square-foot store on 1.16 acres at 972 Cassat Ave.

Wawa opened four locations already toward its potential 40 sites in Northeast Florida.

The $915,400 project is at Cassat Avenue and Normandy Boulevard. A $180,000, 7,150-square-foot canopy also is planned.

Wawa opened its first Duval and Clay county stores Dec. 14. The first of the morning was at 6787 Wilson Blvd. on the Westside.

It has since opened two more — at The Crossing at Town Center and at EastPark at 11812 Beach Blvd.

Pennsylvania-based Wawa identified sites in Duval, Clay and St. Johns counties for its first Northeast Florida locations.

Meanwhile, the St. Johns River Water Management District gave notice that it will grant a permit to developer BW Beach Brougham LLC to develop a site for Wawa at Beach Boulevard and Brougham Avenue.
