U.S. Magistrate Judge Joel Toomey was sworn in at the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse on July 6 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of U.S. Magistrate Judge Howard Snyder. Before taking the bench, Toomey was a division chief of the litigation department for the City of Jacksonville’s Office of General Counsel. He is flanked by U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Gerald Tjoflat (left), for whom he clerked after graduating from Duke Law School in 1982, and U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Corrigan.
