Warren Grymes

Chief executive officer

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida Inc.

Mission

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with measurable impact.

Serving Jacksonville

Since 1915. Our national headquarters are in Philadelphia. We have almost 400 member agencies in the country and 12 international agency locations that serve more than 250,000 children. The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida is the 27th largest member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Those served

Duval, Nassau, Clay, Baker, Putnam, Flagler and Volusia counties. We served more than 1,800 children last year. Our goal is to serve 5,000 children by our 100th anniversary in 2015.

Biggest challenge

Convincing more adults to volunteer to help a child.

Biggest satisfaction

The more than 1,800 volunteers that do help our children.

Hometown

Quincy, Mass., but I have lived in Jacksonville since 1963, so I consider Jacksonville my hometown.

First experience with

community service

Delivering Christmas baskets full of food to the needy with my dad and brother when I was 10.

This is our Seventh Annual MJV, a Caribbean-style event that encourages guests to wear flowered shirts, shorts, flip-flops, print dresses in a very casual atmosphere. We have a live band, auction and a lot of fun. Sponsorships are still available.
