U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit to hear cases in Jacksonville; deadline looms for JBA board candidates

The proceedings in court are open to the public.

A panel of judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, which serves Florida, Georgia and Alabama, will be hearing cases today through Friday in Jacksonville. Oral arguments will be presented in the U.S. Court of Appeals Courtroom on the 13th floor of the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse, Downtown at 300 N. Hogan St.

Hearings begin at 9 a.m. and usually last about 30 minutes each. The proceedings are open to the public.

Deadline March 27 for JBA board candidates

The deadline for nominations for the 2018-19 Jacksonville Bar Association board of governors is 5 p.m. March 27.

A president-elect and five board members will be elected via online voting beginning at 7 a.m. April 11. Ballots also will be collected May 2 at the association’s annual meeting and Law Day luncheon, when the new board members will be announced.

Nominations must be in the form of a written petition, endorsed by 10 active JBA members. Nominees will provide a candidate profile, including Jacksonville Bar activities, Florida Bar activities, civic activities and the nominee’s goals for the JBA.
