The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity is a state agency that provides the monthly data on employment and unemployment for the Jacksonville area.
However, even a state agency can feel the effects of a federal government shutdown.
The department was scheduled to release its September labor data for Florida and its counties and metropolitan areas today, but the report has been postponed.
Because of the federal government shutdown, data collected by the U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics – which is used by the state to compile its local data – has been delayed. So the DOE cannot complete its report.
According to the bureau’s website, the federal agency’s monthly report on the nation’s unemployment rate, originally scheduled for Oct. 4, has been rescheduled for Tuesday now that the federal government is back in business.
However, the Florida agency is still waiting for information from the bureau, spokeswoman Jessica Sims said in an email Thursday.
So the DOE has not rescheduled its monthly report.
