Wawa and RaceTrac are gaining speed on developing more area gas stations and convenience stores.

Wawa developer Brightwork Real Estate Inc. filed plans for a store at 1004 Edgewood Ave. N., at northwest Edgewood and Commonwealth avenues.

The location is in the Paxon area of Northwest Jacksonville and is one of 14 identified area locations for Pennsylvania-based Wawa, which intends to open its first three area stores by year-end.

Plans show the 5,636-square-foot store will be developed on 1.5 acres. Bohler Engineering is the agent. A former bank building would be demolished for the project.

RaceTrac Petroleum Inc. filed plans for its proposed location at Gate Parkway and Deerwood Park Boulevard at the Gateway Village at Town Center development.

RaceTrac intends to build a 5,411-square-foot gas station and convenience store on the 1.69-acre site.

Wawa holding two job fairs to hire 200

Wawa Inc. scheduled two job fairs to fill 200 jobs at its first Jacksonville stores, which should open by year-end, and also continues to take applications for additional future locations.

Both events are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Homewood Suites by Hilton at 10434 Midtown Parkway in St. Johns Town Center.

The first is scheduled Friday and the second is Oct. 3.

Positions include customer service supervisors, night supervisors and customer service associates. Wawa is accepting applications for management positions for future openings.

Wawa recommends that candidates with restaurant and retail experience apply to the career site — wawa.com/careers — before attending the hiring fair. 

Wawa said applicants with retail or food service experience can apply for customer service associate at salaries up to $13.50 an hour.

Those with additional supervisory experience can apply for night supervisor positions at pay up to $16 an hour.

Eligible employees will be offered benefits that include an employee stock ownership plan; a 401(k) plan; medical, dental and vision plans; and other programs.

Wawa plans to open 25 to 30 stores annually throughout Florida for the next several years. Each new store will employ nearly 40 associates.

Zips Express Car Wash adds Atlantic Boulevard location

Zips Atlantic Boulevard LLC, in care of Equity Investment Group of Fort Wayne, Indiana, bought the Blue Water Express Wash at 8714 Atlantic Blvd. on Monday for $3.37 million.

Protective Life Insurance Co. of Birmingham, Alabama, issued a $3.37 million mortgage to the limited liability company.

Blue Express sold the 1.9-acre property, with an almost 3,300-square-foot car wash built in 2008, through Blue Water Express Wash 4 LLC, based in Tallahassee. 

Zips Express Car Wash has six locations in Jacksonville and one in Orange Park. It bought the four Jacksonville-based CarbuX centers in 2016.

Zipscarwash.com reports the chain operates 88 locations in nine states and operates 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.

Bloomberg reports that Zips Car Wash LLC is based in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and was founded in 2004. 

Amazon OK’d for storage racks

The city issued a permit for Amazon.com’s almost $2.5 million interior storage rack system at its 1 million-square-foot Cecil Commerce Center fulfillment center at 13333 103rd St.

Amazon will use the Westside center, which is in Hillwood’s AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center, to ship large consumer items. It is hiring at least 1,000 employees.

Hillwood also applied to the city for a $1.3 million conveyor system and the $2.5 million installation of two platforms in the building along with a $233,000 installation of lightweight stock shelving.
