Sheriff-elect Mike Williams announced Wednesday that Pat Ivey, the current chief of patrol west, is his choice for undersheriff.

The appointment is pending City Council approval, but would take effect July 1 when Williams is sworn in as sheriff.

In a news release, Williams said he’s worked with Ivey for more than a decade as their careers progressed through the agency.

“He is someone I can trust to design and implement a strategy; and constantly evaluate effectiveness and measure outcomes,” said Williams in the release. “Pat is also a trusted adviser to me, and is known to many in the community, having worked in every patrol zone in this city, as either an officer of a supervisor.”

Williams also announced he has tapped retired Undersheriff Frank Mackesy, current University of North Florida police chief, to chair his transition activities.

Mackesy will oversee administrative, organizational and personnel committees dealing with the leadership transfer. He’ll also serve as a liaison to Mayor-elect Lenny Curry’s transition team.
