Beautiful weather and a new start time created one of the biggest “Run for Cover 5K” races in the history of the event for the Young Lawyers Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association.
The event took place Saturday and featured a 6 p.m. start, which was a departure from the usual morning race.
“We wanted to make it more family-friendly this year,” said Christian George, an organizer of the event and a YLS Board of Governors member. “(The evening start) definitely contributed to the great turnout.”
About 500 participants took part in the race through Riverside.
The event benefited the Florida Skin Cancer Foundation. Founded in 1996, the foundation is dedicated to educating Floridians about the dangers of prolonged exposure to the sun.
The race is one of several run in memory of Alan C. Sundberg Jr., who died of skin cancer in 1998 at the age of 33. Alan is the son of former Florida Supreme Court Justice Alan C. Sundberg and the brother of Tallahassee lawyer Bill Sundberg, a founding member of the Florida Skin Cancer Foundation.
