As most of you know, the Young Lawyers have been given a unique opportunity to attend the Jury Selection Program being sponsored by the Chester Bedell Inns of Court. When Magistrate Judge Tim Corrigan called to invite us, the only way that seemed fair to further extend the invitation to YLS members was to send an e-mail to YLS members asking them to RSVP on a “first come, first served” basis. Originally, we thought our invitation would be limited to 20 YLS seats. However, when I told Judge Corrigan about the terrific response I had received, he agreed to extend the number to 30. I think this presents a tremendous opportunity to learn more about unique areas of trial practice, and also to meet and learn from experienced Jacksonville trial lawyers. Many thanks to the Inns of Court and Judge Corrigan!
For those of you who were not quick enough on the reply button, I am hopeful that the Inns of Court will extend a similar invitation to us in the future. If you didn’t get my e-mail, please call the JBA as they don’t have up-to-date records for you.

As I indicated in my previous column, YLS will host a holiday party for foster children under the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families on Jan. 26. Through the Holiday in January Project, we try to make the holidays a little brighter for these children. Santa is lined up to make an appearance and the marquis raffle event is coming together well with a goodly number of bicycles donated and refurbished by the Sheriff’s Office. Many of you have received letters requesting donations from your firms to support the Holiday in January Project. We utilize such donations to purchase toys and clothing from local stores. If you have received a letter, please dig it out of the “stack” and walk it down to the partner or administrator in charge of charitable contributions. If you haven’t gotten a letter and you would like to help us with the Holiday in January Project, please call Ray Driver (353-2000) or Troy Smith (398-3911).
