The Young Lawyers Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association held its annual meeting last week at the Omni. Author and legal analyst Mark Shaw was the speaker, discussing perseverance and hope. Borrowing from Albert Einstein, Shaw said imagination is more important than knowledge and that one’s dreams should always be pursued.

“I have experimented with my life,” said Shaw, a graduate of Purdue University. “I’ve had 28-29 different occupations in my life. When we fail, we think ‘I must not be able to do this,’ but keep looking for alternatives. Never let anyone tell you you can’t do something and never let go of your dreams.”

A criminal law attorney for several years, Shaw served as a legal analyst for “Good Morning America” during boxer Mike Tyson’s rape trial. He co-founded the Aspen Daily News, played the part of Mr. Science on the Disney Channel, hosted many shows, produced small-time television shows and films and has written 10 books.

Also, officers and a new board of governors for the Young Lawyers were sworn in by Judge Timothy Corrigan. The officers are Cheryl Worman, president; Ray Driver, president-elect; Braxton Gillam IV, secretary; and Troy Smith, treasurer. Newly-elected board members are Geddes Anderson, Kevin Cook, B.J. Millis and Tatiana

Salvador.
