California-based home decor retailer Z Gallerie intends to open in St. Johns Town Center near Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant.

Plans filed with the city show the store will open in more than 9,000 square feet at  4663 River City Drive.

No contractor is listed for the $550,000 build-out.

Z Gallerie operates at least 68 stores in 28 states, including nine in Florida. It also operates two outlet centers in California.

In addition to Orlando, Z Gallerie operates three stores on the Southwest Florida coast and five on the Southeast coast.

Z Gallerie says three siblings — Joe and Mike Zeiden and Carole Malfatti — opened a small art shop in 1979 in Sherman Oaks, California.

The original poster shop evolved over almost 40 years into stores selling furniture and accessories.

“Art has been the singular focus behind our design aesthetic,” says the zgallerie.com site.

It is based near Los Angeles in Gardena, California.

A call to the marketing department was not returned by Wednesday afternoon.

Z Gallerie operates the stores and an online presence. Categories include bedding, tableware, rugs, furniture, art, mirrors, lighting, decor and more.

Bloomberg reported in January that the JLL commercial real estate services firm announced it represented Z Gallerie in its plans to open an East Coast distribution and customer service center in Lithia Springs, west of Atlanta.

The distribution center is expected to create 115 jobs and be fully operational by 2019, JLL said.

Z Gallerie currently supports all of its stores and e-commerce business nationwide from one warehouse on the West Coast, according to JLL.

The Atlanta facility represents a $3.7 million investment to support East Coast distribution and overall growth.
