At the January Clay Builders Council meeting at Island Life Grill in Fleming Island, members gathered to hear Clay County Building Official David Conner and to celebrate the new energy of the local council.

Good crowds, informative guest speakers and a full agenda are becoming the trademark of the Clay council, thanks largely to the enthusiasm generated by 2014 Council Chair Michael Bourré. He is a former NEFBA president and president of Bourré Construction.

Bourré accepted the challenge as the industry and local market were beginning to rebound. Bourré’s skillful leadership earned him the Dave Crawford Builder of the Year Award at the Clay Builders Christmas Party.

Angie Claxton-Smith, the 2006 Clay Builders Council Chair, with Scapes of North Florida, and Brian Bussell, of CEMEX, were recognized as Associate Members of the Year for their support of the council.

Bill Auclair with Mattamy Homes will be taking over as council chair in 2015. Other new board members include Glen Greathouse (Sherwin-Williams), Cathy Whaley (D&D Garage Doors) and Vice Chair Scott Carnes (Construction Management Plus).

Also, longtime CBC Board Members Trish Kolosky (Kirk’s Framing), Mike Dallas (Partridge Well Drilling) and Rogers Holmes (Builders First Source) will serve on the 2015 board.

The Clay group ended 2014 with its annual food basket giveaway in partnership with the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs. Now in its 25th year, the partnership with the food pantry feeds more than 100 Clay County families in need.

The Clay County Humane Society also joined in the effort by giving out food for hungry pets. Volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 424 were on hand to help people load baskets into their cars, and Santa Claus himself supervised operations while checking his list.
