Kathy Para, Max Marbut honored at annual Jacksonville Bar Association event.
The Jacksonville Bar Association celebrated Law Day at its May meeting Wednesday at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront.
The Law Day theme, “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society,” was based on the First Amendment that guarantees, in addition to freedom of speech and the press, freedom of religion, the right to peaceable assembly and the right to petition the government for redress of grievances.
Kathy Para, who retired in January from Jacksonville Area Legal Aid after a decade of service as pro bono coordinator and pro bono director, was named Jacksonville Daily Record Lawyer of the Year.
Max Marbut, associate editor of legal affairs for the Jacksonville Daily Record and the Jacksonville Record & Observer, was presented the Liberty Bell Award given annually by the Jacksonville Bar Association.
The award is presented annually to a nonlawyer who demonstrates commitment to the legal community, promotes a better understanding of the law, encourages respect for the law and courts, stimulates civic responsibility or contributes to good government.
