Supervised by artist Lana Shuttleworth and Friends of Hemming Park founder Wayne Wood, “The Giant Chicken” that’s been in the east fountain at the Downtown park since April left for a new home Thursday. Shuttleworth said before the 600-pound sculpture made its debut in Jacksonville, it was exhibited in Los Angeles near a freeway off-ramp. ”I like that it’s been on both ends of Interstate 10,” she said. The assemblage of recycled traffic cones was on its way to Wood’s front yard at his home in Riverside. He said after posting a notice sign and pleading his case at a hearing, Riverside Avondale Preservation granted him permission to make the 12-foot-tall bright orange chicken part of the scenery in the historic district.
