Two Men and a Truck collects for Mother’s Day

Two Men and a Truck of Jacksonville delivered six large boxes of donated essential-care items for women to the Betty Griffin House shelter in St. Augustine on May 12.

The Movers for Moms campaign collected clothing, linens, reading materials, snacks, water, personal care items and more.

Two Men and a Truck is the largest franchised moving company in the U.S. and internationally, with 352 national locations and 2,534 trucks operating in the U.S.

$75,000 grant for Family Foundations

Family Foundations was awarded a $75,000 grant for outstanding achievement by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Wells Fargo Foundation as part of Wells Fargo’s 2016 CommunityWINS grant program.

The award was presented to Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and the city on behalf of Family Foundations, recognizing leadership in promoting neighborhood revitalization, economic development and job creation efforts.

“It is truly an honor to be one of only six cities nationwide to be awarded the CommunityWINS grant in support of the Family Foundation’s 1000 in 1000 program,” said Curry in a news release. “This recognition reinforces our citywide collaborative efforts in addressing poverty in our community and improving the quality of life for all Jacksonville citizens.”

The CommunityWINS grant program partnership between the conference and Wells Fargo follows a national alliance formed in 2011 to address foreclosure prevention, property disposition, homeownership promotion and community development.

“Wells Fargo is delighted to see this grant given to such a deserving and impactful nonprofit organization,” said Kelly Smith, North Florida region president for Wells Fargo’s Community Bank. “We care deeply about the communities we serve and Family Foundations is doing excellent work in Jacksonville.”

The nonprofit, a United Way agency, promotes families learning how to be financially stable.

Clothing drive for Operation New Hope

Dion Marketing is accepting donations of business attire during June to benefit Operation New Hope.

Gently worn business attire, such as suits, blazers, slacks and blouses, will be accepted for both men and women of all sizes 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at 421 N. Third St. in Jacksonville Beach.

Operation New Hope is a Jacksonville-based nonprofit that assists ex-offenders convicted of non-violent crimes with re-entry into the community and the workforce and provides financial and emotional support to children of ex-offenders.

Art show to benefit Wolfson

Hobnob gallery and event space at 220 Riverside Ave. in Brooklyn and the Jacksonville Artist’s Guild will host an opening reception at 6 p.m. June 3 to debut the exhibit, “Chords of Unity,” and to raise money for Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

The juried art show will feature 32 artists from the guild.

As part of the event, Hobnob will donate 10 percent of sales to Wolfson Children’s Hospital. In addition to the art exhibit and fundraiser, Jacksonville Dance Theatre will be performing in Unity Plaza at 7 p.m.

Publix ‘Food for All’ for Feeding Northeast Florida

Through Publix Super Markets’ nationwide 2016 Food for All fundraiser, Feeding Northeast Florida is one of 21 Jacksonville-area nonprofit organizations receiving monetary donations. Of the $577,000 being distributed in the region, $60,809.16 was donated to the food bank.

In December, Publix shoppers contributed to the campaign by purchasing donation coupons for $1, $3 or $5, which were scanned during checkout and added to their purchase total. All funds collected are being distributed to programs that fight hunger and advocate for self-sufficiency on a local and regional level.

“Publix has been an incredible supporter of Feeding Northeast Florida and our mission for over seven years,” said Luke Layow, president and CEO of Feeding Northeast Florida, in a news release. “This gift will create 364,855 meals for children and families, senior citizens and veterans in need in our community.”

Feeding Northeast Florida picks up food donations from 55 Publix stores in seven area counties. In 2016 alone, Publix donated more than 4.5 million pounds of food, with a retail value of nearly $8 million, to the food bank.

One in four children and one in six adults in Northeast Florida are food insecure — more than 283,000 people.

Operation Gratitude for Memorial Day

For the second year and in recognition of Memorial Day, Jacksonville-based Pilot Pen is teaming up with Operation Gratitude, a national organization that provides care packages with handwritten letters of appreciation for U.S. service members, first responders and veterans to help spread gratitude via the written word.

Pilot has donated more than half a million pens, (300,000 in 2016 and 300,000 this year) for care packages, while promoting the “Red, Write & Blue” initiative which encourages fans to thank a service member by writing a letter.

The initiative begins on Memorial Day and ends on Veteran’s Day.
