Civic activities

I was appointed to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers by the governor in 2016 and have actively served as a public member since that time. I previously participated in the Associated Builders and Contractors of Northeast Florida and have volunteered for the ACE Mentor Program of Northeast Florida. I have served as an adjunct professor at Florida Coastal School of Law, teaching construction law, and was on the ASFP Florida First Coast Community Walk Committee in 2014.

Goals for the JBA

The role of the Jacksonville Bar Association in the legal community continues to evolve, as does the practice of law. With that changing landscape, it has never been more important that the JBA serve as an asset and partner to each of its members. This requires the JBA to be more adaptable to the varied needs of its members and that it work to grow its member benefits. In order to meet these goals, the JBA must actively work to identify these needs and strive to meet those needs in the form of relevant and informative CLEs, networking events and community involvement opportunities.

Goals for the JBA

For more than a decade, I have been heavily involved in the local and statewide Bar associations. More than ever, I believe our Bar association needs to be relevant to more lawyers. It’s a difficult task because what one lawyer finds helpful or interesting, another may not. I think we can accomplish our goal of relevance by analyzing data and conferring with more lawyers. We should sharpen our focus on: (1) membership value; (2) health & wellness; (3) technology; (4) mentorship; (5) implicit bias; (6) and professionalism, in addition to the many projects already underway. Some projects, such as an effort to develop better tracking and programming for lawyer referral services between the JBA and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, are ones that I hope to see become successful by remaining on the board. We have worked very hard toward becoming more relevant in recent years and I will push for that to continue. I promise to be diligent and to collaborate with other Bar associations around Florida about ways to improve our organization. The 4th Circuit has a strong, collegial and dedicated Bar association. I will further that reputation and work with board members and Bar staff to explore all opportunities for our profession.

We can lead by promoting competence, ethical conduct and professionalism in the practice. We can advocate for the disadvantaged through pro bono services, public service programs and legislative activities. Goals for the JBA

I have an established career with the JBA that shows I am willing to devote the time and energy to making the most of our organization and inspiring those around me to do the same.

I have been privileged to serve on a YLS board that has constantly sought ways to improve engagement and value for members through the transformation of events and services such as the Chili Cook-Off move to Riverside Arts Market, continued improvement of the YLS section of the JBA website and increased newsletter and social media presence to facilitate communication with members. I would like to carry the YLS’s dauntless willingness to re-evaluate itself to the big board level.

As editor-in-chief for five association presidents, I have lead the Bar Bulletin through various changes and will continue striving to provide worthwhile publication opportunities for members as well as a platform to showcase the accomplishments of our legal community and educate members regarding opportunities for involvement.

Through participation in the Senior Holiday Project, Holidays in January and the Law Week Poster Contest, I have seen the good the JBA can do beyond the legal community and want to explore additional opportunities for service and community outreach.

In short, I consider myself to be the poster child for developing a rewarding career and finding professional and personal satisfaction through involvement with the JBA, and I want to take my enthusiasm and dedication to the next level as a member of the JBA board of governors.

Goals for the JBA

If re-elected to the Jacksonville Bar Association’s board of governors, I want to ensure that our Bar association is relevant to our membership and I want to continue to support the camaraderie which makes Jacksonville the absolute best city in which to practice law. The practice of law is changing and evolving every day, and with that evolution comes new challenges, but also great opportunities for growth and reflection.

One of the ways to foster that growth is by targeting our brand new lawyers and bringing them into the fold. This past year, the Bar has been working to revamp its mentorship program, which is a vital part of the continued success of our organization. I want to continue to focus on mentorship. The Jacksonville Bar is so unique in that its members continue to have very friendly and collegial relationships with one another. It is imperative that we, as a board, continue to foster that atmosphere of professionalism. This is one of the many things which makes being a Jacksonville lawyer so awesome.
