St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church received five permits for its new campus at 12760 Beach Blvd., east of Kernan Boulevard.
The city issued the site-clearing permit Nov. 20.
On Dec. 12 and Dec. 17, permits were issued for construction of the 17,728-square-foot worship center; a 13,161-square-foot banquet hall; a 14,343-square-foot education building; and the 8,406-square-foot open-air gymnasium.
The site-clearing and construction costs total $10.3 million. Construction is expected to take a year.
Sauer Inc. is the contractor and Kasper Architects & Associates is the architect.
As previously reported, the new 14.9-acre campus includes a Byzantine crucifix-form sanctuary for worship services, an administrative-education building and a banquet hall to include an airnasium – a covered outdoor gymnasium – and a grassed area for sporting and outdoor events, including the Greek Festival and its Easter Picnic.
St. John the Divine estimates the cost of the campus at $13 million. It is raising the money from contributions, a sale of part of the property for a charter school, the sale of the existing property at 3850 Atlantic Blvd. and a loan to cover the gap.
The church sold property to Red Apple at Coastal LLC in October 2016 for $2.4 million for construction of Duval Charter School at Coastal.
IberiaBank issued a $4.5 million mortgage to St. Johns the Divine Greek Orthodox Church of Jacksonville.
