City Sports and Entertainment Officer Dave Herrell resigned last week after four years on the job.
In a letter to Mayor Lenny Curry dated Feb. 8, Herrell informed the mayor he was stepping down April 10 from the role he’s had since 2014 “to pursue potential professional opportunities that have been presented.”
“I appreciate the opportunities I have been given during my time with the City of Jacksonville, as well as the professional guidance and support from your team,” he wrote.
While Herrell’s official last day will be April 10, he states he will use his remaining earned leave time beginning Feb. 9.
Herrell’s profile has been removed from the city’s website.
The mayor’s office declined comment.
Herrell was appointed by Mayor Alvin Brown in 2014 and confirmed by City Council.
The Office of Sports and Entertainment is responsible for leading the city’s sports, special events and film and television production efforts.
It also is responsible for contract management with facilities manager SMG, the Jaguars and annual sporting events and helps oversee programming at the city-owned entertainment and sports facilities.
Before coming to the city, Herrell served as the senior director of sales, marketing and strategic partnerships for the Arizona Sports Foundation, where he was involved with the Fiesta Bowl. He held a similar role with the Nashville Sports Council.
