The 4th Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission will interview beginning at 8 a.m. June 11 the 18 applicants for the vacancy created by the resignation of Circuit Judge Robert Foster that is effective Dec. 31.
The interviews will be conducted in the chief judge’s conference room at the Duval County Courthouse and are open to the public.
The commission is directed by Gov. Rick Scott to submit a list of six nominees, from which he will appoint the next circuit judge in Nassau County.
Ten of the applicants currently work for the state, including a judge on the 17th Circuit bench in Broward County, a Duval County judge, a 4th Circuit general magistrate, two assistant public defenders, an assistant state attorney, two attorneys who work for the state Department of Children and Families, an attorney in the 4th Circuit Office of Regional Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel and the court counsel for the 4th Circuit. Eight applicants are in private practice.
Nominating commission Chair Patrick Kilbane said that by 3:30 p.m. after he and his colleagues have interviewed all the candidates, they will begin confidential deliberations that won’t conclude until they agree on who will be considered for judge.
“I plan that we will have the nominees by the time we adjourn,” he said.
