Web.com Group Inc. said Monday it eliminated a “small percentage” of its jobs, but the provider of internet services and online marketing solutions for small businesses would not give the number or location.
The company had about 3,600 employees at the end of 2017, according to its annual report. Besides its Jacksonville headquarters, it had offices in eight other U.S. cities, four in Canada and one each in the United Kingdom and Argentina.
Web.com in November revealed plans to move its headquarters operations from two buildings in Flagler Center to a 218,700-square-foot building at 5379 Gate Parkway called Town Center Two.
The company said it had nearly 1,000 Jacksonville employees that would move into the new six-story building, which is scheduled to open in spring 2019.
Web.com reported 2017 revenue of $749.3 million and net income of $53.6 million, or $1.06 per share. The earnings included a one-time tax benefit of $22.9 million.
CEO David Brown last month said one of the company’s priorities for 2018 would be “additional synergy realization,” indicating Web.com was considering ways to cut costs after completing three acquisitions in the last two years.
“Last week, we made the difficult but deliberate decision to eliminate some positions. This was part of a broader process to rebalance our organization, whether by integrating platforms and processes, or by eliminating some positions with overlapping responsibilities across the company,” Web.com spokesman Brian Wright said by email.
Wright said the company is providing affected employees “assistance in many forms.”
