Baptist Health intends to develop an almost 25-acre medical and wellness complex in Nassau County.
It also is adding two primary-care centers in Duval and St. Johns counties.
In Nassau County, Jacksonville-based Baptist Health expects to buy property in Yulee along Florida A1A and Harper Chapel Road from Chase Properties Inc. within 30 days.
Jacksonville-based Chase Properties, led by developer Mike Balanky, owns the site at 76375 Harper Chapel Road.
The St. Johns River Water Management District gave notice that it intends to grant a permit for the project for Baptist Health Properties Inc.
A mass grading plan filed with the application shows an internal roadway system for the project, comprising several lots.
England-Thims & Miller Inc. is the project civil engineer.
“We are building a medical and wellness complex offering a range of outpatient services,” said Baptist Health spokeswoman Cindy Hamilton.
She said plans are in the early stages.
Baptist Health said it was not releasing the development timeframe at this time. The medical center said it was expanding “to continue to serve the needs of the rapidly growing community.”
The Water Management District plans specify that the project includes the installation of limited underground utilities, clearing, mass grading and a stormwater management facility.
“Soil disturbing activities” include clearing and grubbing including a stabilized construction entrance, perimeter and other erosion and sediment controls; excavation for activities that include building foundation; and construction of curb and gutter, road and parking areas.
Baptist Health already has a presence in Nassau County. It operates the 62-bed Baptist Medical Center Nassau community hospital at 1250 S. 18th St. in Fernandina Beach. It opened in 1994.
Baptist Health also wants to develop two Baptist Primary Care centers in Tapestry Park in Duval County and in The Pavilion at Durbin Park in St. Johns County.
Baptist Health intends to develop an almost 6,700-square-foot primary care center at 4844 Deer Lake Drive W. that should open by summer 2019. It is near Another Broken Egg Café.
Hamilton said the project, expected to cost $2.91 million, will comprise 3,801 square feet of space for primary care services led by up to two family medicine physicians; 493 square feet of space for break- room use; and 2,400 square feet of space for growth.
The city and the Water Management District are reviewing the applications.
No contractor is listed for the $900,000 construction job on 1.77 acres. Prosser Inc. is the civil engineer.
Baptist Health said it intends to buy the land.
Plans show six exam rooms, including an accessible room; two physicians’ offices; a nurses’ station; and other spaces.
The district application shows the developer as Tapestry Park II Hotel LLC of Columbia, Missouri.
Those plans also show a separate building pad for future office construction, but Baptist Health said it was not connected with that.
Hamilton said Baptist Primary Care will open in summer 2019 within the Durbin retail center. Plans by developers Gate Petroleum Co. and Gatlin Development Co. show a 5,000-square-foot Baptist Primary Care Center.
Baptist Health operates 55 primary care centers that it said allows for more access and “to ensure we grow with the communities we serve.”
