Northeast Florida residents wanting to visit the Alamo will soon have a new way to get there.

Frontier Airlines is adding nonstop service from Jacksonville International Airport to San Antonio, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority said Thursday.

Flights begin Aug. 12 and operate Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The end date for the service is Nov. 14.

Frontier.com says fares start as low as  $49 one-way.

“This new service adds yet another new destination and affordable option for our leisure and business travelers,” said JAA CEO Steve Grossman.

It’s another boost in service by Frontier at JIA.

On May 8, Frontier announced that from Aug. 13 through Nov. 14, passengers can fly directly to Buffalo Niagara International Airport; Kansas City International Airport; McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas; General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee; Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport; and St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Frontier operates nearly 80 Airbus A320 jet aircraft and has 200 new aircraft coming online this year as part of a $15 billion expansion, Frontier Vice President of Marketing Tyri Squyres said May 8.

Frontier also began providing seasonal service this year from JIA to Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas; Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport; Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport; Denver International Airport; Philadelphia International Airport; and Trenton-Mercer Airport in New Jersey.

San Antonio, population 1.49 million, is the home of attractions such as The Alamo Mission, the River Walk, Sea World and the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.

The city is the home of six Fortune 500 companies: Valero Energy, Andeavor, USAA, iHeartMedia, NuStar Energy and CST Brands Inc.
