Attorney-adviser for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Jamie Karpman will begin her year as president of the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association on July 1, is planning the transition with 2017-18 President Jennifer Shoaf Richardson, who the same day will begin her one-year term as president of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers.
An associate with Jackson Lewis, Richardson is the first state association president from Northeast Florida in more than 10 years.
She also is a member of the 4th Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission that this week will begin the process of selecting for Gov. Rick Scott’s review potential appointees for the vacancy created by the resignation of Circuit Judge Robert Foster.
Three seats on the Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section board of governors, with one incumbent running for re-election, will be on the ballot for the 2018-19 Bar year that begins July 1.
Seat 2: Open seat for a two-year term.
Seat 4: A two-year term with incumbent Courtney Gaver.
Seat 6: Open seat for a two-year term.
To be eligible, candidates must be members of the Jacksonville Bar Association and either 35 years or younger as of July 1 or admitted to practice law for less than five years.
Those wishing to seek election must indicate their seat preference and submit a candidate profile form with a recent color headshot to Alex Hill, YLS board president, at [email protected] no later than the close of business May 31.

Online voting will begin June 8 and end June 20. Paper ballots will be available June 21 at the YLS annual meeting. Results will be announced at the meeting.
Giselle Girones, an associate at the Schullman Fugate law firm, has been selected a Florida Bar Business Law Section fellow for the 2018-20 term.
A 2016 graduate of the Stetson University College of Law, she is events co-chair for the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association.
Barbara Cocciolo joined Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP as counsel in the firm’s Jacksonville office.
Before joining the firm, she was an attorney with Holland & Knight LLP.
Cocciolo focuses her real estate practice on master-planned communities and condominium developments including structuring, developing, operating and disposing of projects.
She also has experience representing financial institutions in commercial and residential foreclosures, loan restructurings, and REO sales.
She received her J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law and a B.B.A. from the University of North Florida.
Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin named James Hanratty managing attorney of the firm’s Jacksonville office.
He joined Marshall Dennehey in 2006 as a shareholder in the Cleveland office and transferred to Jacksonville in 2012.
Hanratty defends individuals, insurance companies and major corporations in complex litigation with clients including insurers, hospitals, manufacturers of household products and industrial machinery as well as retailers in products liability actions involving vehicles and component parts.
He is a graduate of Walsh University and the University of Akron School of Law.
Labor and employment attorney Jessica Travers joined Akerman as a partner in the Jacksonville office.
She received a bachelor’s degree in 2002 from the University of Florida and in 2005 a J.D. from Tulane University Law School, where she was senior managing editor of the Tulane Environmental Law Review.
