An undisclosed buyer submitted a winning bid of $23.3 million Thursday to acquire the 18-story BB&T Tower in Downtown Jacksonville.
A spokeswoman for Transwestern Marketing, which is handling the sale, said the firm can't comment further until the sale closes.
Bidding was extended for an extra hour after the scheduled end time as competing parties raised their bids.
The 285,487-square-foot building at 200 W. Forsyth St., which opened in 1975, was acquired by a group of lenders in 2016 after no one bid on the property in a foreclosure auction.
Norfolk, Virginia-based Harbor Group International had bought the building for $30.05 million in 2007, according to property records.
A foreclosure suit filed in Duval County Circuit Court in 2014 showed the owners owed $32.4 million on the mortgage.
When Transwestern announced the auction for the building in April, it said the property was 63 percent leased.
However, the owners spent $3.9 million for capital improvements in the past year and the firm expressed confidence that it will attract leasing interest after the sale.
