A project called Classic Car Storage can be built south of St. Augustine, following a unanimous vote by the St. Johns County Commission to rezone 8.8 acres on the east side of U.S. 1 South.

Sidney and Brenda Hobbs of St. Augustine submitted a request to rezone their vacant site, south of Wildwood Drive and north of Watson Road, from commercial general to commercial intensive, which allows for car storage centers. Karen Taylor, a St. Augustine-based land planner, represented the owners at the meeting.

The company will have a building with 30,000 square feet of space for owners of unique vehicles.

The rezoning application says that future uses of the building could include a museum, displays of memorabilia and hosting events.

The county's Planning and Zoning Agency discussed the project at its Oct. 4 meeting and unanimously recommended it for approval by the commission.
