Wawa is preparing another Jacksonville site for a gas station and convenience store, this one at 970 Cassat Ave. in West Jacksonville.
It is at least the 20th site identified or confirmed for Wawa in Duval, Clay and St. Johns counties. The Pennsylvania-based chain opened its first three locations in December.
The company said it wanted up to 40 stores in Northeast Florida. Four are open.
The city is reviewing civil plans that show a 5,943-square-foot store with six fueling stations offering 12 pumps on 1.5 acres at northwest Normandy Boulevard and Cassat Avenue.
Grunthal & Schueth Properties, through Normandy Boulevard & Cassat Avenue LLC, paid almost $1.72 million Sept. 27 for the site.
It bought the land from Camelia J. Fouraker. Ameris Bank issued a $2.7 million mortgage.
The LLC is led by Leonard “Buzzy” Grunthal III and Bill Schueth.
In November, the site was identified for Wawa.
Grunthal and Schueth have experience with Wawa. A partnership bought land for development of the Wawa store in EastPark at 11812 Beach Blvd.
Plans show Wawa is interested in at least three locations each in Clay and St. Johns counties and 14 in Duval County.
Some of the sites might not be developed.
