The city accepted bids Wednesday from three firms to provide design-build services for the Cecil Commerce Center Mega-Site Entrance Road project.
The three applicants were Jacksonville-based Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors Inc., Jacksonville-based J.B. Coxwell Contracting Inc. and R.B. Baker Construction Inc. with offices in Georgia and St. Augustine.
The work requires the entrance road design, permitting, and construction of a 1.2-mile, two-lane curb and gutter asphalt road with drainage infrastructures.
The design includes space for two future additional lanes on the west side of the right-of-way to support growth.
The road will extend from New World Avenue north to the 600-acre mega-site.
The city will review the bids.
The mega-site is property designated for large industrial development. While the property is 600 acres gross, the city says the “prime 400-acre tract of land” is valued at $40 million, about $100,000 an acre, and is not accessible by vehicle.
