The Florida Times-Union reported Wednesday that the daily newspaper is moving from its longtime offices on Riverside Avenue to the second floor of the Wells Fargo Center in Downtown Jacksonville.
The Times-Union plans to move its news, advertising and accounting operations into 27,000 square feet of office space in the 35-story tower during the first quarter of 2019.
The newspaper operates at 1 Riverside Ave. on property owned by the Morris family. The paper moved there in 1967. Morris bought the paper and the property in 1982 and sold the newspaper last year to GateHouse Media.
The Morris family wants to redevelop the property for mixed uses, a hotel or multifamily housing.
“We’ve been working with the folks at Wells Fargo for several months now, and believe this will be a great location for our operation, as it sits smack in the middle of Downtown Jacksonville, on the Northbank,” said Mark Nusbaum, the paper's president, in the Times-Union report.
Nusbaum announced last week he would retire at the end of the year.
“A lot is happening for us, to say the least,″ Nusbaum said. “New leadership and a new home, all within just a few months.″
Bill Offill, Daytona Beach News-Journal publisher, was promoted to group publisher for three GateHouse Media newspapers in Florida, including the Times-Union.
The promotion was announced Friday.
