The Bearded Pig BBQ in San Marco announced plans Friday to move into a new building.
The company said in a news release it has outgrown its space at 1224 Kings Ave. and that construction has begun 0.3 miles south at 1808 Kings Ave.
A permit was issued Oct. 4 to demolish a gas station that was on the site.
The restaurant said it plans to open the new location in late spring 2020 and will remain open until then.
The 0.71-acre site was acquired Tuesday by KingPig LLC for $750,000. The seller was Schmidt Development LLC.
There are two mortgages issued on the property, for $1.33 million and $1.06 million, both from Ameris Bank.
The space is just south of where Florida Cracker Kitchen is building its second Jacksonville restaurant at 1842 Kings Ave.
The Bearded Pig is owned by Michael Schmidt and Chad Munsey. They also own Rec Room bar and arcade in Five Points and closed The Derby House restaurant in early October.
The company said it is working with Doherty Sommers Engineers Architects “to design a restaurant that reflects our original feel and embraces what people have come to love about The Bearded Pig while addressing some operational issues and allowing for growth.”
The Bearded Pig said it will retain its space at 1224 Kings Ave. for a future project.
