The Back 40 Urban Cafe, a St. Augustine Tex-Mex, vegetarian and Caribbean restaurant will open its third location, Back 40 Urban Fresh, at 105 Nature Walk Parkway along County Road 210 in St. Johns County.
The county issued the interior build-out permit Wednesday.
Back 40 announced plans in July on its Facebook page to expand to northern St. Johns County. Owner Paul Moody said by email that the restaurant would open early next year.
Build-out is expected to cost $200,000 for the 2,332-square-foot space. The restaurant will replace the former Bellini Cucina Italiana restaurant.
The Back 40 Urban Cafe operates outside of downtown St. Augustine at 40 S. Dixie Highway. Back 40 A1A is at 6101 Florida A1A S. in Butler Beach. Moody sold the A1A location Thursday.
Moody couldn’t provide a menu for the Urban Fresh location. The other two locations serve burritos, tacos, sandwiches, wraps, bowls as well as beer and wine.
Entrees range from $9 to $13.
The Back 40 Urban Cafe’s initial location on South Dixie Highway opened in 2011. Moody and his wife Pam bought the restaurant in 2016 from Brian Harmon.
