Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corp. plans a groundbreaking at 10 a.m. Nov. 8 for the Market Place at North Point, the second phase of North Point Town Center.
That Market Place is across the street from the first phase at 3416 Moncrief Road in the Moncrief Park area.
The Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corp. promotes real estate development and business and residential revitalization to encourage growth and create jobs.
Future plans for the Market Place include a grocery store, transit hub, retail and other amenities.
Paul Tutwiler, CEO of the Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corp., said the Market Place initially will be an open-air market with 34 small businesses.
Market hours will at the discretion of the vendors, possibly daily.
The second phase for the Market Place anticipated to be a 23,500-square-foot building, including a 10,000 to 16,500-square-foot grocery store and tenants from the open-air market.
Infrastructure for the building will be complete in about six months, Tutwiler said.
He said negotiations with a grocery store for the building are ongoing.
Phase one of North Point Town Center, built in 2011, is a two-story 10,600-square-foot building with space for offices, restaurants and retail.
The property is owned by the Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corp., which has its offices there.
Tenants include Rockin Waffles Cafe, The Capstone Institute, The Associates Consortium, Overflow Health Alliance, Department of Health Pediatric Dental Clinic, A.B. Vinson Behavioral Consultant, Sharks Bail Bonds and Bridges to the Cure.
