Duval County Public Schools extended closures through Thursday as Hurricane Dorian brings possible storm surge, rain and tropical storm-force winds to the area.

School leaders released the update Tuesday afternoon on the district's website and social media accounts.

All 12-month employees, including IT, maintenance and school police, will report to work Thursday to assist with hurricane recovery efforts.

All JV and varsity football games scheduled through Saturday will be rescheduled or canceled. A list of the rescheduled games can be found at dcps.duvalschools.org.

Mayor Lenny Curry said in a tweet Tuesday that schools serving as public shelters for storm evacuees will need to be prepared for reopening.

City Hall and Jacksonville city offices are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Curry said a decision has not been reached to extend the closures through Thursday.
