Audrey Moran, an influential force in government, nonprofits and civic issues, has been named the 2016 JAX Chamber chair.

The move was announced in a news release Friday morning, after a chamber board vote.

She will begin the role as chair-elect next, serving with Chair John Delaney. The two have a history of working together. Moran served as Delaney’s chief of staff from 2001-03 while he was mayor and they both worked together as prosecutors under Ed Austin, a former state attorney and mayor.

“When you talk about economic development, you’re really talking about what’s good for the entire community, and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who knows this community better than Audrey,” Delaney said in a news release.

Moran will lead the chamber’s board of governors in 2015 and be responsible for the 2015 leadership trip.

“We’re positioned to make tremendous strides as a city over the next few years and the chamber can play a significant role in helping businesses and families prosper here in Jacksonville — whether that’s leading efforts to revitalize Downtown, connecting small business with opportunities to grow or attracting high-paying jobs to town,” Moran said in the release.

Moran is the senior vice president for social responsibility and community advocacy at Baptist Health.

Previous roles include being in-house counsel for Barnett Bank, special counsel for the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, and president and CEO of the Sulzbacher Center. Moran also ran for mayor in 2011.
