Food notes: Church's Chicken, Moe's Southwest Grill building in North Jacksonville

Church’s Chicken is building a restaurant at 1855 Dunn Ave. in North Jacksonville. Accelerated Contractors LLC is the contractor for the $711,180 project, according to a pending building permit. The almost 1,900-square-foot restaurant will be built at Dunn Avenue and Mar Vic Lane. The architect is ACT Architects LLC.

A shell building was approved for construction at 15128 Max Leggett Parkway. The Angelo Group Inc. is the contractor for the 4,918-square-foot retail building at a project cost of $600,000. Plans show Moe’s Southwest Grill will take 2,600 square feet of the structure and another retail tenant will take the remaining space.

Pollo Operations Inc. buys Bartram site

Pollo Operations Inc. bought property in the Shoppes at Bartram Park from Compass Bank for $1.2 million. The deed was recorded Monday with the Duval County Clerk of Court.

Pollo Tropical is joining the growth at Bartram Park in Jacksonville’s Southside. The Miami-based chain, with three restaurants in Jacksonville, plans to build its fourth at 13776 Old St. Augustine Road in the Shoppes at Bartram Park.

A concurrency application showed the restaurant site was owned by Compass Bank.

Pollo Tropical Chicken on the Grill is part of Pollo Operations Inc. of Miami.

The city issued a permit for North Coast Construction Co. to build the 3,801-square-foot restaurant and drive-thru at at a project cost of $340,000.

The chain focuses on Caribbean-inspired, citrus-marinated grilled chicken. In addition to its signature grilled chicken, it offers slow-roasted mojo pork, salads, sandwiches and wraps.

Restaurant remodels

• Tropical Smoothie Café is renovating space for a location at 4765 Hodges Blvd. in the Windsor Commons Shopping Center. A building-permit application shows a project cost of $90,000 for the 1,400-square-foot store. No contractor is listed. According to tropicalsmoothie.com, there are eight locations in Duval County and this would be the ninth.

• The city approved renovations for Dunkin’ Donuts at 7117 Philips Highway. Suncoast Industrial & Construction Services is the contractor for the $150,038 remodeling job.

• Famous Amos is renovating 4,500 square feet of space at 11565 N. Main St., No. 100. North Florida Construction Co. LLC is the contractor for the $96,022 project. Paula Dixon, executive operating manager and comptroller of FA Restaurant Holdings LLC in Jacksonville, said it will be the seventh area Famous Amos and anticipates an April opening. She said Famous Amos has been operating in Jacksonville since 1967 and under new ownership since 2009. The new location should seat 111. “We do have plans for additional locations, but the number and location are still in the planning stage,” Dixon said.
