The tradition began in 1970 as the legal comminity’s prelude to the annual football game when the late Mark Hulsey, a Florida law graduate, and the late Charlie Kimbrell, a Georgia law graduate, agreed to co-sponsor the competition that features students from each school arguing a fictitious case in federal court. The competition took place at the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse before this year’s bench: Senior Judge William Terrell Hodges, Middle District of Florida; Judge B. Avant Edenfield, South District of Georgia; Judge Gerald B. Tjoflat, 11th Circuit Court of Appeal; Chief Judge Lisa Godbey Wood, Southern District of Georgia; and Judge Marcia Morales Howard, Middle District of Florida.
