Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp., which just opened its Merrill Road shop, is preparing for two more Jacksonville locations.
The city approved construction Monday for Krispy Kreme shops in West Jacksonville and Southside.
Dooley and Mack Constructors of Georgia Inc. is the contractor for both.
The Westside Krispy Kreme is a $652,675 project at 6250 103rd St. It’s a 2,671-square-foot shop.
The Southside Krispy Kreme is a $381,162 project for a 2,871-square-foot doughnut shop at 3814 University Blvd. W. It also involves the demolition of the 10,600-square-foot building – a former buffet and Internet café – on the site.
The three are prototype Krispy Kremes.
The newest opening boosts Krispy Kreme’s Jacksonville presence to four stores and two under development.
The two newest by Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme are at the former Shoney’s along 103rd Street near Blanding Boulevard in Westside and the former Barnhill’s Buffet and Internet cafe along University Boulevard West at Chester Avenue in Southside.
The existing buildings are being removed for construction.
That expands the company’s stand-alone scope, not counting sales in convenience and food stores, to Arlington, East Arlington, Westside, Mandarin and Southside.
Restaurants on the rise
• Waffle House Inc. is building at 7180 Normandy Blvd. The city approved the $210,000 construction project for the 1,635-square-foot building as well as two signs at a project cost of $11,000.
• Wendy’s applied for construction of a River City Marketplace area restaurant at 15236 Max Leggett Parkway. The 3,317-square-foot project carries a construction cost of $868,533.
• Southern Roots Filling Station is planned at 1275 King St. Moducomm Development Inc. is the contractor for the $22,788 project. Southern Roots is a coffee shop and health food store. Its Facebook page is Southern Roots.
