Gov. Rick Scott appointed Jacksonville lawyer Scott Mitchell to the Duval County Court. He will fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Tyrie Boyer to the Fourth Judicial Circuit.

Mitchell has been a sole practitioner since 2010. He previously practiced with Lester & Mitchell from 1995-2010, with Moran & Mitchell from 1993-95, with Coxe & Mitchell from 1989-93 and with Coxe & Schemer from 1986-89.

Mitchell served as an assistant state attorney with the Fourth Judicial Circuit from 1982-86. He received a bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence University and a law degree from Florida State University.

“During his 29 years of practicing law in Duval County, Scott has handled cases reflecting a broad spectrum of the criminal justice system,” said Scott in a statement.

“His experience in both public and private practice have given him the perspective to make decisions in an unbiased manner and according to the rule of law,” he said.
