Wawa’s Clay County footprint might be growing.

The Pennsylvania-based gas station and convenience store chain requested a permit with the St. Johns County Water Management District on April 2 for a location in Fleming Island.

It would be its seventh Clay County location. It is proposed on Village Square Parkway off U.S. 17 about a third of a mile from Baptist Medical Center Clay.

According to site plans, the proposed 5,915-square-foot location would be built on 1.78 acres.

Wawa is considering a location on Village Square Parkway off U.S. 17 about a third of a mile from Baptist Medical Center Clay shown by the blue box.

Site plans show eight gas pumps and 16 fueling positions.

Jacksonville-based England, Thims & Miller Inc. is the project civil engineer.

The district application lists Stephen Brock of TVC Fleming Island Co. LLC as the landowner. TVC Fleming Island’s mailing address is in Bloomfield, Michigan.

In February Wawa filed an application with the district for a 5,537-square-foot station in Baker County along Florida 228 West, north of Interstate 10, in Macclenny. It is still under review.

Permits for a station and store in Wildlight in Nassau County were issued in December.

Wawa opened a store at 3561 Spring Park Road in Jacksonville on Nov. 30.

Research finds it operates about 300 stores in Florida. It broke ground on its first Georgia stores in March and will open its first in Alabama on April 25.
