Amazon.com closed its newly opened Jacksonville fulfillment until the effects of Hurricane Irma are determined.

“In the wake of Hurricane Irma, our Amazon Jacksonville facilities have temporarily closed operations and customers in the area should expect delays in receiving their Amazon orders while damage to local infrastructure is fully assessed,” said spokeswoman Shevaun Brown.

“We are continuing to check in with employees to confirm their well-being and safety, and our facilities have been minimally impacted by the storm,” she said.

The Seattle-based internet retailer began shipping orders about two weeks ago from the 1,500-job fulfillment center in North Jacksonville at 12900 Pecan Park Road.

It ships small consumer items from the center.

It intends to open a 1,000-job Cecil Commerce Center fulfillment center for large items and a Westside Industrial Park sortation center this month.
