Association for Corporate Growth talks JOBS

More than 40 members and guests of the Association for Corporate Growth North Florida were provided a preview recently of the JOBS Act of 2012.

The Jumpstart Our Business Startup Act comprises six initiatives amending the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

President Barack Obama signed it April 5 with the intent to provide access to capital for emerging growth companies by making it easier for them to launch initial public offerings.

Chapter President Michael Kirwan and attorneys H. Timothy Gillis and Hamilton Traylor discussed the act May 17 at the association’s last meeting of the program year.

Kirwan is a partner with Foley & Lardner, Gillis is a shareholder with Akerman Senterfitt and Traylor is a partner with Fisher, Tousey, Leas & Ball.

“It’s business as usual until we get the final SEC rules,” said Traylor, referring to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Association for Corporate Growth North Florida chapter, which has 86 members, is part of a global organization founded in 1954. The chapter, which was started in 1997, includes professionals involved in middle-market corporate growth, corporate development and mergers and acquisitions.

The chapter plans three networking events for the summer before starting the 2012-13 program year in September.

The summer happy hours are scheduled 5-7 p.m. and are planned:

• June 21 at the Chart House restaurant along Riverplace Boulevard.

• July 19 at BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon in the St. Johns Town Center.

• Aug. 16 at the Corner Bistro and Wine Bar in Tapestry Park.
