The Young Lawyers Section of The Jacksonville Bar Association is once again hosting its Holiday in January event Jan. 10 to ensure that more Jacksonville children in foster homes over the holidays receive a holiday gift.

Last year, the Young Lawyers Section provided bicycles, scooters, helmets and holiday gift bags to foster children identified by Family Support Services.

The Young Lawyers Section hosted the event at the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens, where each child and his or her foster family received free admission.

The gracious members of the Northeast Florida Paralegal Association provided crafts and cookies for the children.

We look forward to an even bigger and better Holiday in January event for next year.

The Young Lawyers Section is scouting locations for the event and accepting sponsorships to help us grow this event.

For example, the Young Lawyers Section was able to provide helmets to the children last year through the generous donations of Driver, McAfee, Peek & Hawthorne and the Bedell Firm.

For more information regarding the Holiday in January event or if you would like to contribute, please attend our first planning meeting at The Volstead at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 25 or contact either of the following co-chairs for the event, Christine Bell at [email protected] or Michael Lockamy at [email protected].

Also, please make sure to attend the event as you do not want to miss out on an appearance from Santa Claus himself.

The Young Lawyers Section also has many other offerings that provide opportunities for you to get involved with your local community and The Jacksonville Bar Association.

For the first time, the Young Lawyers Section will host a Charity Poker Tournament at bestbet Jacksonville on Thursday, Feb. 19. Sharpen up your poker skills and please join us for this fun event. Proceeds will be donated to a Jacksonville charity.

The Young Lawyers Section will again host its annual Chili Cook-Off on Feb. 21. There are many ways you can participate in the event.

You can be an event sponsor, enter a team or you can attend the event to enjoy the chili and festivities.

As with prior years, there will be beer, wine, desserts and live music to complement the several chili recipes you will enjoy. Proceeds will be donated to a local charity.

The YLS will release more details about the Charity Poker Tournament and the Chili Cook- Off in the coming weeks.
