Buckeye buys Jacksonville Hess terminal


Houston-based Buckeye Partners L.P. has completed the purchase of 20 liquid petroleum products terminals for $850 million from Hess Corp., including the Jacksonville terminal for $2.3 million.

Buckeye announced the completion of the purchase Dec. 11.

The Jacksonville deed was made that day for Buckeye Terminals LLC to buy two North Jacksonville properties — the 10.1-acre Hess property at 2617 Zoo Parkway and a 1.2-acre piece of vacant property along Eastport Road. Buckeye bought the property from Hess Corp. at market and taxable value.

Buckeye's news release said the 20 terminals have a total storage capacity of about 39 million barrels.

The 19 domestic terminals are primarily in major metropolitan locations along the U.S. East Coast and have about 29 million barrels of refined petroleum products storage capacity, including 15 million barrels at New York Harbor.

The terminal on St. Lucia in the Caribbean has about 10 million barrels of crude oil and refined petroleum products storage capacity and has deep-water access.

The acquisition increases Buckeye's total liquid petroleum storage capacity by 53 percent to more than 110 million barrels.

The release said Hess' Retail Marketing Business will be a key customer at the facilities under a multiyear storage and throughput commitment.

Hale Trailer plans Westside dealership

Hale Trailer Brake & Wheel, a New Jersey-based trailer dealership, plans a 25,000-square-foot sales and service facility in West Jacksonville on a 25.2-acre site at 271 Halsema Road.

The city is reviewing a permit for contractor Giles-McIvor Inc. to build the structure and an open tractor-trailer storage center. JAA Architecture Inc. is the architect.

The site says Hale Trailer is a full-service trailer dealership that sells new and used trailers and related equipment.

Hale says it also rents trailers on a short- and long-term basis, sells commercial trailer parts and accessories and provides general service and repairs to trailer equipment.

Its primary market is the east coast from Portland, Maine, to Jacksonville. The company is based in Voorhees, N.J., and it has 13 branch locations, including the existing Jacksonville operation at 10688 General Ave.

The new location is about 2 miles west of there.

The property to be developed is owned by TSK Furniture Inc. and is used as pastureland.

Hale now operates on 8 acres with a 2,000 office-storage building. It is owned by Jenstar Properties Inc., whose president is Hale President Barry Hale.
