Jacksonville Beach, closed for business Wednesday and building sold the next day.
Campeche Bay Cantina, at 127 First Ave. N. in Jacksonville Beach, closed for business Wednesday and its building sold the next day for $1.95 million.
127 1st Avenue North LLC, led by Marc and Beth Angelo, bought the almost 7,000-square-foot building on 0.15 acres from Six Burritos L.C. and Five Enchiladas LLC.
Those groups are led by the three owners who announced last week the restaurant was closing.
Angelo could not be reached Monday for comment.
Angelo is a real estate investor whose Jacksonville properties include at least two more at the Beaches.
For example, a Rosenbaum family group led by Marc and Beth Angelo paid $5 million in December 2017 for the 27,432-square-foot Costa Verde Plaza at 2415 S. Third St. in Jacksonville Beach.
Marc Angelo said he planned to clean up the site, repaint the building, repair the roof, seal and stripe the parking lot and install new handrails. Angelo said at the time that occupancy was 90 percent.
The shopping center, now called the Costa Verde Shops, includes the Casa Maria Mexican restaurant.
Angelo also is a partner in the shopping center at 2400 S. Third St. in Jacksonville Beach. Tenants there include Bonefish Grill and Roy’s Restaurant.
On July 26, the Angelos registered the LLC that bought the Campeche Bay property.
Two of the three Campeche Bay partners – Vince McGuire and Dave Boulier - said in a news release last week that they are retiring, and the decision was made to close the restaurant after 33 years.
The release said the third partner, co-owner Tom Sprowell, saw an opportunity for a new venture but did not elaborate.
Six Burritos L.C. is led by Boulier and Robert Cummings. Five Enchiladas LLC is led by two companies whose directors include Cummings, Boulier, McGuire, Sprowell and Patrick Breen, according to state corporate records.
Campeche Bay originally opened in Arlington in 1986. The partners opened the Jacksonville Beach location in 1998, closing the Arlington restaurant in 2007.
