• Real$ense will host its annual "Super Saturday" tax-preparation event from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Gateway WorkSource location, 5000-2 Norwood Ave. The half-day event will offer free income tax preparation for individuals and families with incomes of $57,000 or less, electronic filing and special assistance for tax-related issues, among other features. In addition, 62 Real$ense and AARP sites will be open in Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties for free income-tax preparation with no income limits. The Real$ense Prosperity Campaign consists of agencies, nonprofits and local businesses, all under the guidance of United Way of Northeast Florida, that work to improve the financial stability of Florida residents. • Foreclosure rates in Jacksonville decreased in December over the same period in December 2011, according to data released by the CoreLogic research firm. The data show the rate of Jacksonville-area foreclosures among outstanding mortgage loans was 8.17 percent for December 2012, a decrease of 0.49 percentage points compared to the December 2011 of 8.66 percent. Foreclosure activity in Jacksonville was higher than the national foreclosure rate, which was 2.96 percent for December 2012. Also in Jacksonville, the mortgage delinquency rate decreased. For December 2012, 13.4 percent of mortgage loans were 90 days or more delinquent compared to 14.22 percent for December 2011. • Gov. Rick Scott appointed three people to the state Board of Physical Therapy Practice, including one from Ponte Vedra. Kay Tasso is a physical therapist with Sensational Kids Therapy and Coastal Therapy. She fills a vacant seat for a term that began Thursday and ends Oct. 31, 2016. The board's mission is to protect, promote and improve the health of people in Florida through state, county and community efforts, according to its website.
• Scott also appointed two members to the Florida Prepaid College Board, with one from Ponte Vedra Beach. Robert Champion is a wealth management adviser with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and fills a vacant seat. His term began Friday and ends June 30, 2014. The board helps Floridians save for future qualified higher-education expenses through the Prepaid College Plan and other savings programs, according to its website.
• The Association of Fundraising Professionals First Coast Chapter will host its "The Power of the Purse: Women in Philanthropy" event from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. March 12 at the Florida State College at Jacksonville Deerwood Campus. A panel discussion will feature philanthropist Betsy Lovett, The Community Foundation in Jacksonville President Nina Waters and Florida Blue Foundation Vice President Susan Towler about how women are changing philanthropy. • The Downtown Investment Authority scheduled a special meeting at 9 a.m. Friday in the Don Davis Room at City Hall. The topic will be Ordinance 2013-94 introduced by City Council member Richard Clark concerning the three-year waiver of mobility fees for construction.
• The next meeting of the City's Downtown Development Review Board will be at 2 p.m. March 7 in the Lynwood Roberts Room at City Hall.
• Auditions for the 2013 ROAR of the Jaguars — the Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleading squad — is under way, with this year's applicants also considered for the squad's new brand ambassador program. A registration form and details are available at jaguars.com. The deadline to register is Monday.
• The Jacksonville Transportation Authority has named Ellisa "Lisa" Darnall as vice president of transit operations. Darnall, a Jacksonville native, most recently served as chief operating office at LYNX Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority. She joined LYNX in 1997 as manager of transit operations development. It is the final vice president position created as part of the authority's organizational restructuring announced by CEO Nathaniel Ford less than a month ago.
